Remember me

How does that work?

If you check this box when logging in, the website will send your browser a cookie with a secret key. This cookie will be stored on your computer. Next time you visit this site, the secret key will be used to log you in. You will not have to type in your username and password yourself.

This means that anybody who has access to the cookie stored on your computer, can assume your identity while visiting this website. That's why you have to be careful to use this feature if you are on a public computer, at school, in an internet café, etc.

Every time you log into this site, the secret key changes. Any secret keys you may accidently have left on any computer will be unusable when you log in again from a different place. Please note, the only way to leave secret keys behind, is by checking the "Remember me" box when logging in and not logging out when you leave.

Unfortunately for some of you, this also means that if you use more than one computer regularly (for example, one at home and another at work) you cannot stay logged in from both of them. The cookie on the first computer will be invalid when you log in from the second, so when you go back to the first one, you will have to re-log in manually. If that really bothers you, you can register a second account with this website, which you should use exclusively on the second computer.

Whenever you click "Log out", the cookie (and the secret key with it) will be destroyed. It is always wise to log out from any website when leaving your computer.
